Tivadar Kossuth was born in 1947 in Törökbecse, former Yugoslavia. Through his mother who was an icon painter, he soon became acquainted with the art of painting. However, on the suggestion of his family, he studied carpentry and later ceramics. After obtaining degree, he worked successfully in the local tile factory. He became the leader of the department where exclusive, handmade tiles were produced. In his free time, he made sculptures and huge mosaic pictures that still decorate some of the public buildings of the town.
Nevertheless, "an artist, a true one, cannot be diverted to some other profession, and there is no historical or situational force that can prevent him from fulfilling his destiny. This person cannot be else but a writer, a painter or a musician. Someone, who is an artist in this sense, has got fate."
"I took my paintings to a photographer then sent the photos to Beograd, to the most renowned Yugoslavian art historian, Otto Bihai-Merin. He immediately bought one of my paintings, The last supper and told me that if I continued like this I could travel all over the world with my works."
He was right. In the following years, his paintings became known in France, the USA, Australia and Japan. He got several invitations; among them was one to the Chaplin Film Festival from Vevey, Switzerland. His surrealistic and fabulous works about the famous actor charmed Geraldine Chaplin as well as his later works did Richard Attenborough and Danilo Kis. In 1993 to a request, he made a family crest with which Mr. Hans Ohlsen represented himself in the Danish Royal Club. Tivadar Kossuth, on his road often coloured by bypasses, has created a unique style. Meanwhile, he managed to maintain and follow his own personality thus choosing a more difficult way but that of his own. This way eventually led him to success and reputation. Besides many prestigious orders, among the purchasers of his paintings are artists and politicians. His paintings can be found in the Landesmuseum of Koblenz, Germany and in private collections of London, New York and Tokyo.
Since 1993, the painter lives and works in Szatymaz, in a village near Szeged, Hungary.
